our history
Grupo Farma began operations in Latin America in 1941, starting in Caracas, Venezuela, by representing Swiss pharmaceutical multinationals. Over the years, it expanded its operations to other countries in the Andean region, Central America, and the Dominican Republic. Grupo Farma currently belongs to Candoria Holding AG, a Swiss group of companies based in Zug, Switzerland.
The 1940's
The beginning of Grupo Farma
◉ 1941: Alfredo Kuster, a Swiss businessman, created a company to represent Swiss pharmaceutical companies in Venezuela
◉ Strategic alliances with Sandoz (Switzerland) and the Swiss Serum and Vaccine Institute Berne (Switzerland)

◉ 1952: Inauguration of the Caracas headquarters
◉ 1955: Grupo Farma signed license agreements with J.R. Geigy and Hoffmann-La Roche and undertook the distribution of the Nestle milk “Guigoz”

◉ 1960: We began operations in Colombia, making Grupo Farma the first pharmaceutical transnational company of Andean origin
◉ 1964: The Berne Institute of Spain (Madrid) is founded in partnership with the Swiss Serum and Vaccine Institute

◉ 1973: Grupo Farma’s manufacturing plant in Caracas, Venezuela, is inaugurated, signing, that same year, exclusive licenses in Venezuela with Astra Laboratories (Sweden) and Kabi Vitrum (Sweden)

◉ 1981: The Galenic Development Department was created in Caracas
◉ Grupo Farma obtained international patents for Teobid® (theophylline ER) and Valpron® (valproic acid)
◉ It signed a manufacturing contract with The Sydney Ross Co. (USA) when the latter closed its plant in Venezuela
◉ An exclusive manufacturing and distribution contract for Alcon Pharmaceutical products was signed
◉ The Group licensed pharmaceutical lines from Sanofi (France), American Cyanamid–Lederle (USA), Marion Laboratories (USA), and Hausmann Laboratories, St. Gallen (Switzerland).

Our History
◉ 1991: Acquisition of the company Norwich Eaton (a pharmaceutical subsidiary of Procter & Gamble in Venezuela), which afterward became the OTC Division of Grupo Farma.
◉ 50th anniversary of Laboratorios Farma, Venezuela
◉ The Group obtained licenses for pharmaceutical lines from Astra (Sweden) for Colombia, Schwarz Pharma (Germany), and Grossman (later known as Valeant-Mexico)
◉ Co-Marketing with Pfizer (USA) in Venezuela
◉ Acquisition of the brand Yodora (Colombia)
◉ 1997: Grupo Farma Ecuador is founded, expanding our operations in the Andean region. In this same year, Grupo Farma continued its internationalization by launching activities in Central America.

Our History
◉ 2001: Purchase of Eli Lilly’s pharmaceutical production plant in Maracay, Venezuela. Beginning of its reconstruction.
◉ Strategic alliance with Aché Pharmaceutical Laboratories (Brazil).
◉ 2002: We continued to grow in the Andean region by inaugurating Farmakonsuma in Peru
◉ 2003: Acquisition of the brand Milpax for several countries of Grupo Farma.
◉ 2006: Laboratorios Farma in Venezuela celebrates its 65th anniversary.
◉ Strategic alliance with Laboratorios Liomont (Mexico), benefiting Grupo Farma in various countries
◉ 2008: The Group’s new manufacturing plant starts operating in Maracay, Venezuela
◉ 2009: Acquisition of Profarma in Zug, Switzerland, for the distribution and promotion of pharmaceutical products

◉ 2012: Acquisition of various brands of James Brown Laboratories, (Ecuador)
◉ 2018: Acquisition of Quiprofarma Laboratories, (Colombia)
◉ 2019: Acquisition of the Hepalive brand, (Ecuador)
◉ Agreements with companies that have biotechnological products for their registration and commercialization in the region

◉ 2020: Signing of an agreement for the marketing of Laboratorios Vifor products in Ecuador and Peru, and the renewal of the license agreement in Colombia, subscribed in 1984
◉ 2021: Laboratorios Farma, Venezuela, celebrates its 80th Anniversary
◉ 2023: Marketing and Distribution Agreement of P&G Health products in Venezuela
◉ Strategic alliance with Glaxosmithkline (GSK) in Venezuela
◉ Obtaining the INVIMA certification of Colombia
